Is Songs of Innocence still taking up space on your itunes library? Find out how to remove U2's "gift."
The current iTunes subscription now comes with the new U2 album Songs of Innocence absolutely free. To the dismay of Apple, not every single iTunes user (around 500 million customers) wanted Bono on their devices. This "gift" (as called by Guy Oseary, U2's manager) is seen as more of an intrusion than a present. And, timed perfectly with the release of the iphone 6, it is hard not to see the marketing value inherent in this gesture.
So let's get on with it!
1. Go to http://itunes.com/soi-remove. Then click "Remove Album"
2. Sign in with the Apple ID and password for your iTunes Store account.
3. You will receive a confirmation message that your account is now Bono-free!
With last week's fiasco finally out of the way consumers have raised a valid question. Where is the line drawn for complimentary downloads? Is it ok for companies like Apple to force feed us "free" content? Apple took up space for leisure on our hard drives without our consent. This audacity to force music on users has received negative backlash. This feeling of invasion of privacy combined with the previously inconvenient steps to delete the album caused the company to actually devise and release a shortcut. Hopefully Apple listens to its consumers and in the future will regard its customers with the respect of individuals who have different opinions and tastes.
